GEBR. Decap 105 Key Robots Orchestra
In the early 1950’s, Decap of Antwerp, Belgium built seven sets of these marvellous life-size Robots. They each have different facial expressions and play saxophone, percussion and accordion, with an early electric organ for depth.
Their automation consists of at least 20 movements, including eyes, fingers, feet, hands and heads. The saxophonist stands up when it is his turn to do a solo. This is accompanied by a synchronised light pattern. The instrument came to us in the 1980s via its original installation in Scotland then Pocklington.
